Surface Preparation

Substrate should be sanded using 120, 150 or 180 grit sandpaper prior to staining or coating. Sealers if used should be sanded with 240, 280, and 320 grit stearated paper prior to being coated. Stain systems recommended under this product are Chemcraft Waterborne wiping stains 824-XXXX.

General Information

Mix material before use. Add water to reduce, if required, and mix thoroughly. Apply by spray at wet film builds of 4 - 5 mils. Aqualux Uniclear Topcoat can be used over 423-4600 and 423-4610 as a sealer. Application and drying conditions must be at temperatures of 18°C or above and at a humidity of less than 65%. Increased airflow and/or drying temperatures, including the use of infrared, will greatly decrease dry times.

Second and subsequent coats must be applied the same day the previous coat is sanded. Aqualux Uniclear must be agitated thoroughly at all times to ensure product consistency. Contact with metal surfaces should be avoided. In the curing cycle, the addition of heat and air movement will shorten the drying time.

Note: Aqualux Uniclear must not be polluted with oil, solvent based paint or the like and should not be applied to metal surfaces. Aqualux Uniclear must not be sanded with steel wool between the coats. Film build should not exceed 2 dry mils per coat. Total film build must not exceed 4 dry mils.

THE CUSTOMER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FOLLOWING THE RECOMMENDED APPLICATION PROCEDURES. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS GIVEN IN THIS DATA SHEET WILL LIKELY RESULT IN UNSATISFACTORY FILM APPEARANCE OR FILM FAILURE. THE COMPLETE COATING SYSTEM SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR REQUIRED PROPERTIES PRIOR TO THE START-UP OF PRODUCTION.

Dry times are greatly affected by film build, porosity of substrate, air movement as well as heat and humidity. Temperatures are based on actual board temperature. This may vary depending on length of time for boards to reach these temperatures. Minimum curing temperatures of 64°F/18°C must be maintained throughout the curing cycle to achieve the film integrity as stated in product features.
