Walking the Walk
We’re committed to reducing our impact on the planet and delivering more sustainable products and solutions to our customers. But we can only do this if sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we’ve integrated sustainability into every area of our business.
What are we doing to be a more responsible company?
Our commitments
We’ve made a commitment to our employees and their health and safety. Guided by our core common values, we’ve also set down our commitments to the environment, including how we aim to improve our energy efficiency. Although we can’t put a stop to global issues and dilemmas, we have strong principles for dealing with them.
Our products
Sustainability isn’t just about producing more sustainable products. It’s about finding new ways to do things. With this in mind, we’ve designed our own eco-efficiency strategy. We also have a program to develop innovative product solutions using sustainability tools to measure our success.
Our people
As a company, we can do a lot for the communities we work in. As individuals, we can do even more. That’s why AkzoNobel is creating opportunities for our people to make a difference. This includes investing in the AkzoNobel Art Foundation, and supporting community programs and projects around the world.
Our Planet
With the growing threat of climate change and the scarcity of raw materials, sustainability is crucial to the future of our planet. We’re constantly looking to minimize our effect on the world and its resources by focusing on material efficiency, energy & climate, water usage and cleaning up the land and air around us.

As an easy reference, our distribution line of wood products has developed a logo to guide you towards making environmentally friendly choices. Our goal is to offer you choices that help meet our goals of providing more sustainable products, without making specific claims to any third party certifications. For example our 275 VOC compliant line would be a better environmental option when VOC is an issue. You will also see this logo used to represent products that contain zero formaldehyde. This line will provide coating system options that could be submitted for various certifications. It is always the responsibility of the end user to apply for these tests to achieve ultimate certification. We are committed to developing environmentally friendly products. When you see terms like BIFMA, L.E.E.D., or third party certification, you will look to these products and then request specific information from our technical department.
