Product Description

Chembase 275 White is a single component, stearated nitrocellulose basecoat/primer that provides good build and hide. Chembase 275 White will dry quickly, sand easily and is supplied at a ready to spray viscosity. This product has been formulated to meet 275 g/l VOC regulations.

Recommended:  American Woodworking Institute Nitrocellulose Lacquer System (8th Ed).

Uses

Chembase 275 White is a recommended primer for Chemcraft Chemlack 275 White nitrocellulose lacquer. This system is designed for millwork, household furniture, decorative items as well as many other interior wood applications.

Surface Preparation

Substrate must be sanded using 120, 150 or 180 grit stearated paper prior to coating. Chembase 275 White should be sanded prior to being topcoated with 280/320 grit stearated paper. Appropriate topcoats are Chemlack Express 275 White 230-22XX. Chembase 275 White cannot be used on metal or old oil finishes.

 

General Information

Agitate material before use.  Chembase 275 White must be agitated thoroughly at all times to ensure product consistency. 

Apply at 3-5 mils wet on sanded substrate.  A further coat may be applied after complete drying followed by sanding with 280/320 grit stearated paper. 

Maximum film build of Chembase 275 White should not exceed 3 mils dry.  Maximum film build of total coating system must not exceed 4 mils dry. 

Chembase 275 White contains stearate and must not be used under pre-catalyzed or post-catalyzed coatings. 

Chembase 275 White should not be used and dried at temperatures below 64°F or relative humidity above 65%. Ammonia cleaners should not be used for cleaning the finish surfaces. This may accelerate discoloration.

 

THE CUSTOMER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FOLLOWING THE RECOMMENDED APPLICATION PROCEDURES. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS GIVEN IN THIS DATA SHEET WILL LIKELY RESULT IN UNSATISFACTORY FILM APPEARANCE OR FILM FAILURE. THE COMPLETE COATING SYSTEM SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR REQUIRED PROPERTIES PRIOR TO THE START-UP OF PRODUCTION.

Dry times are greatly affected by film build, porosity of substrate, air movement as well as heat and humidity. Temperatures are based on actual board temperature. This may vary depending on length of time for boards to reach these temperatures. Minimum curing temperatures of 64°F/18°C must be maintained throughout the curing cycle to achieve the film integrity as stated in product features.
