Surface Preparation:

Substrate should be sanded using 120, 150 or 180 grit stearated paper prior to coating. Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer should be sanded with 280/320 grit stearated paper prior to being coated and the next coat must be applied within eight hours of sanding. Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer cannot be used on metal, old oil or cellulose lacquers.

General Information:

Agitate material before use. Always mix Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer while adding reducers in the recommended mixing ratio. Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer must be agitated thoroughly at all times to ensure product consistency.
Apply at 3 - 5 mils wet to sanded substrate. Further coats may be applied after complete drying followed by sanding with 280/320 grit stearated paper.
Maximum film build of Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer should not exceed 2 - 3 mils dry. Maximum film build of total coating system must not exceed 4 mils dry. Contact with metal surfaces should be avoided.
Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer must not be polluted with oil, varnish or the like and must not be sanded with steel wool between coats.
Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer must not be used and dried at temperatures below 64°F or relative humidity above 65%. During the curing process, the coating must not be exposed to ammonia vapors. Ammonia cleaners should not be used for cleaning the finish surfaces. This may accelerate discoloration.

Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer is a one-component, high solids, pre-catalyzed wood coating and has excellent hiding and filling properties. It is easy to use, sands quickly and easily and has superior moisture resistance. It has excellent adhesion and outstanding vertical hang / sag resistance.
Variset Select Neutral Vinyl Primer comes in a ready to use format, there is no need for reduction. This pigmented pre-catalyzed wood coating has very low odor during the curing process.

Dry times are greatly affected by film build, porosity of substrate, air movement as well as heat and humidity. Temperatures are based on actual board temperature. This may vary depending on length of time for boards to reach these temperatures. Minimum curing temperatures of 64°F/18°C must be maintained throughout the curing cycle to achieve the film integrity as stated in product features.
