Surface Preparation:

Wood must be sanded with a 120 or 150 grit paper and free of dust and all contaminants. Plastic substrates should be scuffed with Scotch Brite to improve adhesion. Substrates that cannot be sanded should be wiped clean and degreased if possible.

General Information:

Mix product with hardener. Apply 2 to 4 wet mils on a sanded surface. Let dry for 30 to 60 minutes and apply the desired topcoat. If the drying time exceeds 4 hours, sanding is required to keep a good adhesion. This product can be tinted with 844 tints and dyes. Once catalyzed with 876-9084, this product will contain isocyanates. Take necessary precautions for the handling and use of this product. See MSDS. Total dry film build of Isolante should not exceed 1 dry mil. The total system build will be dependent upon the topcoat applied.

For a complete system cure, the system must be applied at a temperature above 18ºC and relative humidity below 65%.

Complete system must be verified and approved by AkzoNobel before going on production.

Isolante is recommended with the following topcoat: 458-1260, 436-1399. Others may be recommended as well, speak with your technical sales representative.

Isolante is a two component ‘tie-coat’ polyurethane type sealer that is designed to improve the adhesion between topcoats and substrates where poor adhesion would otherwise be obtained. These would include a wide variety of plastics, stained or exotic woods.

spec_uses:

Isolante is normally used as a washcoat applied directly to the substrate in order to ensure good adhesion and oil blocking properties. It is suitable for all types of wood, MDF, veneers and some type of plastic.

Primer should be well sanded using 240, 320 and 360 grit stearated paper. Suitable primers are polyurethane (283-XXX) or polyester (740-XXX) types. Care should be taken during sanding to avoid sanding through the primer.

General Information:

Mix the desired amount of material and apply 4-6 mils wet. The high gloss coating, when cured, is very suitable to be buffed and polished where dust free conditions are not available.
The relative humidity in the application and drying rooms should never exceed 75%. Viscosity on the mixed material should be monitored regularly to maintain a consistent appearance.
The mixed product contains 876-9081, an isocyanate based co-reactant. Please follow all precautions associated with handling and use of these materials.
Total recommended film thickness of Lustrate is not to exceed 6 mils dry.

Surface Preparation:

Substrate should be sanded with 120, 150 or 180 grit sandpaper prior to finishing. Difficult or oily substrates may require the use of 401-033 Isolante Sealer prior to priming to ensure maximum adhesion.

General Information:

Prepare material as per hardener mixing ratio and apply over desired surface at 3-5 mils wet.
Mixed product will contain 999-067, an isocyanate based co-reactant. Please follow all precautions associated with handling and use of these materials. The relative humidity in the application and drying rooms should never exceed 75%.
After drying, scuff sand with 280-320 grit paper and topcoat within eight hours. If left over eight hours, the sealer should be re-sanded prior to topcoating.
Total dry film build of the system including topcoat is not to exceed 6 dry mils.

Topcoats to use over 436-2104: Chemlite 436-31XX or Lustrate 436-1399.
