Surface Preparation:

Sealer must be sanded with a #280/320 grit stearated paper and free of dust and all contaminants before application of the topcoat. Catlac must not be applied over metal, old finish or nitrocellulose lacquer. Stain systems used should be acid stable.

General Information:

Agitate material before use. Keep under mixing to ensure product consistency and consistent gloss. Apply at 3- 5 mils on sanded sealer. One extra coat may be applied after complete drying followed by sanding with 280/320 grit stated paper. The subsequent coat must be applied the same day as the previous coat is sanded. Maximum film build of the topcoat should not exceed 2 mils dry. Maximum film build of the system should not exceed 4 mils dry. Eliminate all contact with metallic surfaces. Catlac must not be polluted with oil, varnish or the like and must not be sanded with steel wool between coats.

To obtain complete cure, Catlac should be applied at a temperature above 18°C and relative humidity below 65%. When drying, this product is not to be exposed to ammonia vapours. Finished surfaces must not be cleaned with ammonia containing products. Always use plastic or stainless equipment to eliminate discoloration due to oxidation.

Sealers to use with 431-30XX: 390-0060, 431-1219, 546-8003 and 546-5192.

Natural ambering or discoloring in the can may occur over time. Although there may be changes of color in the can as the product ages, this will have little to no effect on the product during application. Storing in locations above recommended room temperatures could accelerate ambering.

Dry times are greatly affected by film build, porosity of substrate, air movement as well as heat and humidity. Temperatures are based on actual board temperature. This may vary depending on length of time for boards to reach these temperatures. Minimum curing temperatures of 64°F/18°C must be maintained throughout the curing cycle to achieve the film integrity as stated in product features.
