Term | Definition |

Diluent | Materials used to thin paints, either to make them more workable or to give them a consistency which is suited to a particular technique. In theory a diluent is only a temporary addition to paint and should evaporate evenly and completely during drying, leaving the original composition of the paint unchanged, and producing no lasting odor or stain. |
